Hello,
I am building a robot to recover my other robot that could be out of order in inaccessible place.
I would like to use 6 IG90 motors and 6 wheels (1 motor per wheel) but I have 18″ wheels :
I would like to use 18″ wheels, sprockets and chaine to reduce speed. The weight of the robot will be about 100 or 150kg (I forget to tell that I am French), so my question is : Are these wheels too big for the IG90 motors ?Thanks.
April 18, 2016 at 11:29 am #3368SuperDroidKeymasterThe size the wheels, gear ratio, etc. is complicated. We can tell you what does work. We used 6 of these motors http://www.superdroidrobots.com/shop/item.aspx/ig90-24vdc-127-rpm-gear-motor/1141/ in this robot http://www.superdroidrobots.com/shop/item.aspx/used-custom-rc-6wd-robot/1942/ that has 13″ tires. We used direct drive. I would not use larger tires with direct drive. The speed will increase and you will lose required torque. If you gear down the 18″ with chain and sprockets so it has the same speed then it should be fine. The weight of the robot matters too. This robot was about 400lbs. We have a speed calculator here, just change the gear ratio until you get about the same speed (430ft/min) http://www.superdroidrobots.com/shop/custom.aspx/how-to-build-a-robot/70/#motors. about a 3:4 reduction should work give you the same speed. If your robot is going to be heavier, you should reduce the speed more so you have move torque to you can do pivot turns, etc. All this is assuming you are going with skid steer.
