Hi everyone and especially SDR, was looking for a forum to join and found this one so seems like the right place to share my ATR build.: )

I built this as a test bed before i make a better body chassis.
I had spare alloy sheet and some old RC stuff laying around so with a goal in mind i set out to build my first ATR.

It’s controlled by a sabertooth/Taranis and runs 24v motors, i can’t remember off hand the gear ratio of them i bought them ages ago and only recently finished putting this together and tested it recently.

I’ve had a couple of rc cars in the past but driving something like this with a stick controller is just so much fun.

I actually love how slow you can go by the lightest touch, truly a pleasure to control. So this was built to be able to climb over most obstacles, the tyres have a great cushion effect, their old RC4WD tyres which i bought a long time ago, i don’t think they make them anymore and although not ideal for something like this if driven smartly then it’s fine, but sometimes the tyres want to pull themselves from the rims if being too aggressive trying to climb something.

So it’s FPV also, in the video I’m driving it from afar sitting in a garage.
I”m running a fan for the Vtx which keeps it nice and cool and a pan and tilt for the fpv camera which sits inside a cctv dome. I’ve removed the tilt for it wouldn’t fit inside the dome so it’s just 360deg now.

It’s running an old frysky rx and very old fpv camera, i have a nice bright cree led assigned to a switch which works great at night.

I could go on and on but after building this I cant wait to eventually build the next one. This has been an terrific learning experience but i have so much to learn. I want to fit a flight controller soon and install ardupilot on it with gps for waypoint mission, etc so that will be interesting to get that going and working 100%.

I’m really looking forward to making a nice body for this one, the top is just perspex for now.

Fair point, I was probably pushing these particular batteries too hard.

I don’t think I charged them all the way, I got these cheapo USB chargers that I can’t tell when it’s done and probably pulled them too early. I have an actual big boy balance charger that also supports 1S, I just don’t have the PH2.0 connectors for it yet, so I’m relying on these things at the moment.

Like right now I have 6 of them plugged in and charging and the lights are all solid green. I plug them into the drone and beta flight and they’re not fully charged yet.
