Hi,
It sounds like you’ve checked most of the things that could be problematic, but here are some suggestions:
EStop / S2 input — Make sure you are putting 5V on this. The Sabertooths won’t apply voltage to the motors unless it sees 5V here.
Autobaud — Make sure you are doing the autobaud sequence with the Sabertooths on boot up (send 0xAA).…[Read more]SuperDroid replied to the topic Raspberry PI & Sabertooth? in the forum Electrical & Controls 7 years, 10 months ago
Hi Scott,
Yes it is possible to connect a Sabertooth to a Raspberry Pi. Just set the Sabertooth to serial mode using its dip switches and send serial packets from the Pi. You will need to write this code yourself.
As for whether you need a Sabertooth with the Pi, the answer is it depends on what you’re trying to do. If you need to control motors…[Read more]

We don’t have a 6-pin that will mate with that. So yes, you can cut the header then solder on shielded cable to go into the Sabertooth screw terminals if they are too far away.
The encoder pull-up board only has 4-pin I/O so that header won’t be compatible. The setup needs to be:
Green to ground
Brown to 5V
Purple to A
Blue to BAs far as the…[Read more]

The Sabertooth 2×12 has a serial interface. You could put the xBee directly to it, but this is strongly not recommended. We will not provide it, you would have to do it on your own. Mainly there will be no fail safe. When you get out of range (which you will if you are wanting to go a mile), the xBee will stop sending data, and the Sabertooth…[Read more]

You should not be getting any serial interference. You can try shielded cable if you think thats the issue, but unlikely. Its more likely your code. break it down and just get the PS2 controller working using the debug and make sure that is all right, then add in the sabertooths. regarding logging, best to check the Arduino forums, you can…[Read more]

Use a larger motor… Sorry, kinda obvious. If it smells like its burning up, its burning up… overloaded. if you are getting it in 10 minutes, doubtful you will make it constantly for months. Non of the motors we sell are really rated continuous duty any ways… continuous duty is a very demanding requirement even with no load.
